What is Google WDYL

I feel like I am forever blogging about Google?? But, here they are with yet another product. www.WDYL.com. This new venture from google is best described as something of a mashup. By typing something that you love into the search box, WDYL returns an array (Great use of Web developing language there) of results. But probably not quite the way your used to seeing them.

Google famously introduced blended search results by incorporating search results that provided not just hyper-links to websites, but also images, videos & news. But this is different, it returns almost widget like results from across Google's platforms. The widgets have a similar feel to those present in Google Analytics, but the categories returned are to name a few, Picasa images, books, youtube, news, Google trends, Google translate and others.

The release of WDYL has been very quiet though, with no major releases from Google regarding it. Possibly due to the constant buzz and focus being on Google+, which I'm sure is far an away more pressing to Google as they strive to capture some of Facebook's market or at least share it.

The question is, is this going to be the face of search as we know it?? It certainly looks smart but I'm also sure that it will keep SEOs on the edges of their seats in case WDYL is a primer for a bigger integration.
